Operation Market Garden

2 days to go,tik tok tik tok and the clock ticking each seconds made me felt more anxious to know what will happen to my result on this thursday. To cheer up myself,I always wrote and post the topic which was considered boring for everyone in this world,history..yeah,you can see it,I just have only 4 followers rather than my friends that have a hundred or even thousands of followers..but,its okay,I'm satisfied with my blog, actually, having a blog make me so proud..I can improve my english, and I can share my simple fact to everyone eventhough not so many people visiting my blog..ha3x,okay..Today,I will post the final step for the Allies to throw the Germans from the Low Land Countries and push them back to their homeland..
1.Montgomery's 2nd Army need to cross Rhine at Arnhem but it was too risky..
2.By crossing Lower Rhine, the Allies could manage to outflank the German's Siegfried and encircled Ruhr Valley..
3.So,its required the paratroopers,a large scale of airborne forces to secure the key bridges stretches along Lower Rhine
a)82nd US Airborne:Grave,Groessbek,Nijmegen.
b)101st US Airborne Division:Son,Best
c)British 1st Airborne Division and Polish Airborne Division:Arnhem
4.The plan of action consisted of two operations:
a)Market: airborne forces of Lieutenant General Lewis H. Brereton's First Allied Airborne Army to seize bridges and other terrain, under tactical command of I Airborne Corps under Lieutenant-General Frederick Browning, and
b)Garden: ground forces of the Second Army to move north spearheaded by XXX Corps under Lieutenant-General Brian Horrocks.
5.The Allies suffered heavy casualties but the way for the Montgomery's 2nd Army was cleared..
6.US 1st Army captured Aachen on 20th October 1944,Patton's 3rd Army secured Metz but 1st Canadian Army did not clear the Schelde estuary west of Antwerp.
7.It was believed that the failure of Market Garden comes in weather, intelligence failure and priority of operation..
8.The result of those three major operations, the Allies amazingly advanced of 350 miles in a few weeks was thus brought to halt when they reached Ardeness..
9.The Allies had a superiority of 20 to 1 in tanks and 25 to 1 in warplanes against the Germans..
10.The Germans near to collapse in August 1944,they were not prepared mentally and materially..
Maybe, tomorrow I will post about the Eastern Front on June-December 1944..just wait and see la..
