The Allies Invasion of Western Europe

I'm truly shock when my friend tell me that the SPM result will come earlier,he said it was today..but,its just a prank..damn it you Dolah,the actual day to receive my result will be on next thursday,on 11th March 2010.Let me proceed to our next lesson,the allies invasion of Western Europe,the continent must be liberate by those Krauts and it was begun at Normandy,Northern France..In the period between June and November saw many of the allies victory against the Germans from Western to Eastern Europe..

a)Operation Overlord

1.The OKH already expected an allied invasion of Northern France..

2.Gen Gerd Von Runstedt expected that the invasion will be at Calais and Dieppe,but Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and Adolf Hitler expected that the invasion will be at Coasts Of Normandy..

3.The Germans have 59 divisions spread over Western Europe and Lowland Countries,but approximately half of this number were static and the remainder may only included only 10 armoured or motorized division..

4.The Western Allies launched Operation Overlord,the invasion of Northern France took place on 6th June 1944-the war most celebrated D-Day..

5.Some 156000 men landed on the beaches of Normandy between Orne Estuary and the Contentin Peninsular.83000 British and Canadian will take the Eastern beaches and other 73000 Americans will take the Western beaches..

6.Once they land at all beaches,they will be under Eisenhower's supreme commander and Montgomery's immediate command..

a)Canadian 1st Army under Lt.Gen Henry Duncan Graham Crerar command will storm the Gold-Juno Beaches..

b)British 2nd Army under the command of Lt.Gen Sir Miles Dempsey will land on Sword Beach..

c)United States 1st Army under Lt.Gen Omar Nelson Bradley will storm the Omaha and Utah Beaches..

d)82nd and 101st US Airborne Division will be drop behind enemy line to cut the Germans supply and sabotage the facilities..

e)3rd and 6th British Airborne Division will be drop behind enemy line and capture strategic bridge and hold it until the reinforcement from the Sword come..

8.By 0900 AM on D-Day the coastal defences were generally breached,but Caen scheudled to fall on D-Day but held out until 9th July 1944..

9.US Forces(Western Sector) managed to captured Cherbourg on 26th June 1944 and turn southward to take St.Lo on 18th July 1944..

10.Runstedt urgent plea for permission to retreat provoked Hitler,on July 3rd 1944 Von Kluge replaced Runstedt as commander in-Chief in the west..

11.On 31st July 1944,the US 3rd Army under the command of Gen,George S.Patton broke the Germans line at Avranches,the gateway from Normandy to Brittany..

12.7th August 1944,the desperate 4 German Panzer Division try to seal the breach but failed..

13.Some of the US Forces swung southwestward and hope to seize Breton ports while the others went towards the crossing of Loire..

14.In the Falaise Pocket, a large part of the Germans retreating southward from the pressure of Allies left at Caen.The Americans took a flanking maneuver eastward while the Polish and Canadian take northward..

15.More allies troops landed at Normandy,On 1st August 1944,the 21st(British-Canadian) and the 12th(Americans) under Bradley landed and reinforced the remained allies troops at France..

16.Middle of August an eastward wheel wider had cut off the Falaise pocket had brought the Americans to Argentan(southeast of Falaise) and leveled with the British,Polish and Canadian advance on the north of Allies front..

17.On 17th August 1944,the US division successfully crossed Seine at Mantes-Gassicourt and took Orleans..

18.French Resistance under the command of Gen Jacques Leclerc pressing forward from Normandy,received the surrender of German forces at Paris and liberated the city on 25th August 1944..

19.The German forces would form a strong defensive barrier line if they pull back to the Seine River but Hitler stupidly ordered that there should not be withdrawal.The result was devastated for the Germans,the bulk of Germans armoured and infantry division largely trapped by the arc of Allies advance and that it what we knew about the Falaise Pocket..

20.Some 200000 Germans troops were taken prisoners in Frace and 1200 Germans tanks have been destroyed..
